Cleaning Without Polluting
The problem with pollution is that it affects us all. Everyday we clean the places where we work, live and eat.
However, by doing so, we pour millions of tonnes of potentially harmful cleaning agents down sinks, toilets and into waste systems. It can be argued that these chemicals are not really cleaning. As with all
chemicals they leave a residue that accumulates and can be a source of foul odours. This is particularly so of urine in washrooms penetrating deep into grouting between wall and floor tiles. Also, the more difficult
the task the more hazardous the chemical. Eliminating the need to use hazardous, sometimes toxic chemicals prevents them reaching our rivers and waterways causing irreparable damage to aquatic life and surrounding
countryside and ensures that Health & Safety guidelines are adhered to at all times.
There Is Another Way
Fortunately, nature has evolved and offers it's own answer to pollution. It has it's own waste disposal operators -
microorganisms. They are safe and they are efficient. Biotechnology is with us in everyday life. Think about how your garden waste is degraded by composting. The agents making this happen are particular
microorganisms; they have a preference for this kind of waste as their chosen source of food. Microorganisms are particularly skillfull. For most types of organic waste, including animal, vegetable fats,
hydrocarbons, soaps, etc., there are a number of microorganisms that use waste as their main source of food, converting the waste into water and carbon dioxide. Microorganisms, invisible to the naked eye, provide a
better and safe solution, to the problems of pollution.
